FREMONT, Neb. – Fielding a team with young and inexperienced wrestlers, Midland University struggled to get wins as they hosted the 2018 Viking-Warrior Open in Fremont, Nebraska on Saturday. Nine Warriors took to the mat in an event that featured 80 wrestlers from Augustana University, Central Christian College, Grand View University, University of Nebraska-Kearney, Midland and a handful of unattached wrestlers.
It was a long day for the hosts as Midland picked up just 3 wins in 21 bouts and failed to have anyone place.
Tristan Snover picked up a win by major decision over Zach Willey of Grand View at 149 pounds. Alton Johnson pinned Daniel Pena (unattached) at the 4:07 mark in the 285 pound division. Dalton Mueller had the third victory the Midland, a pin of teammate Charles Naone at the 1:33 mark at 174 pounds.
Up next for Midland is the 2019 NWCA Multi-Divisional National Duals in Louisville, Kentucky. The Warriors, who were resting their top wrestlers during this past event, will begin compete on Friday, January 4 and Saturday, January 5 at the Kentucky Expo Center – Freedom Hall.
