OKLAHOMA CITY – Midland University’s dance team came up just short of defending their national championship this past weekend at the NAIA Competitive Dance Championship. Midland won the inaugural event last season.
After Friday’s preliminary performance the Warriors sat in third place with a score of 82.50. St. Ambrose University and Oklahoma City University were just ahead of them with scores of 87.43 and 86.43 respectively. Prelim scores count as 25% of their final score.
Saturday saw the Warriors put on solid performance but their score of 86.43 wasn’t quite enough as they were not able to catch the two teams ahead of them. They finished with an overall score of 85.45.
“Going into finals, the dancers were solid from warm up all the way until the performance and danced with a passion and drive that was the best I’ve seen all season,” head coach Katie Speicher commented. “We went into Nationals with determination to defend our National Title. This team is nothing short of champions in my book. I could not be more proud of their amazing performance this weekend.”
Midland finishes their season with a pair of first place finishes during the regular season, repeating as Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Champions and a third place finish at Nationals.
