FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University’s competitive cheer team made a valiant effort to comeback from a few stubbles in their first performance as they finished second at the NAIA Northwest Regional Qualifier on Friday. The Warriors were sitting in 5th-place after prelims but shored up their routine to put pressure on eventual champion University of Mobile.
Midland finished with a final score of 69.08 after their final round score of 70.43. Mobile, who earned the automatic bid to Nationals, was the only other school to eclipse 70. They had an opening round score of 72.98 and a final round score of 76.40 to finish with a 75.55.
The Rams of Mobile were the only team to earn a bid to the NAIA Cheer National Championship. Along with the winners of each regional, eight at-large bids were handed out based on a formula of regular season scores and scores during qualifying.
Rounding out the top five at the regional in Fremont, Nebraska were Loyola University, Point University, and Morningside College.
Midland’s season featured four competition wins including the Great Plains Athletic Conference Championship.
