Midland Announces 2019 Football Schedule

FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University football has officially announced their 2019 schedule. The Warriors’ slate features 11 games against NAIA competition including nine games against fellow Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) foes.

Midland will begin the year on the road on Saturday, August 31 at Southwestern College. The game will be the first ever meeting between the two schools Southwestern is a member of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) and went 6-5 last year. Other road games include trips to play conference foes; Morningside, Hastings, Jamestown, Concordia, and Dordt.

The Warriors will open up their 2019 home schedule Saturday, September 14 when they host Northwestern. Midland’s 2019 home schedule features a nonconference game with Missouri Baptist and GPAC games with Briar Cliff (Homecoming), Dakota Wesleyan, and Doane (Senior Day).

“We are excited about the 2019 football season,” head coach Jeff Jamrog said about this year’s schedule. “Our players made huge strides in our winter conditioning program and that translated into having a successful spring ball. Our attention now turns to Coach (Morgan) Bergen running our summer conditioning program. He does a phenomenal job getting our guys ready for the football season.”

Midland will welcomed a pair of new coordinators during the offseason with the hiring of Wes Fleming and Vance Winter. Coach Fleming will serve as the offensive coordinator and comes to MU from Kansas Wesleyan University, where he held a similar position. Coach Winter will be the new defensive coordinator after taking time off from the game to spend with his family.

“We are pleased with how our players have responded to Coach Wes Fleming and Coach Vance Winter during the offseason,” Coach Jamrog commented. “A strength of this football team will need to be the offensive line, where four starters return and two have started their entire Midland career in Daniel Jahn and Ethan Butler. I like where our offense is headed under Coach Fleming’s leadership.”

“Coach Winter brings years of GPAC experience to our program and will be a great resource. He’s a former head coach is this league and was GPAC Coach of the Year in 2016. His style and impact were visible during the spring as our defense flew around. They were a fun group to watch. We are poised to compete at a high level this season with a veteran group leading the way. We’ll have close to thirty in this year’s senior class.”
