Local Scoreboard: Golf, Baseball, Softball Scores from the Weekend

Golf

The Bergan golf team competed in the Centennial Conference Meet at Indianhead Golf Course, in Grand Island, Saturday.  Bergan finished fifth, shooting a 353.  Bishop Neumann won the meet with a 314.  Jack Goering of GICC was the meet medalist, shooting a 73.  Bergan was led by Spencer Hamilton, with an 83.

Baseball

The Archbishop Bergan baseball team hosted the A-6 District Baseball Tournament at Novak Field.  Bergan beat Lincoln North Star 11-1 in five innings, and in the championship, defeated Lincoln Southeast, 6-3.  Bergan will play in the Class A State Tournament, beginning, Saturday at Sherman Field in Lincoln.  The Knights will be in the State Tournament for the second time in three years, and the third time in school history.

The Nebraska baseball team (23-18, 12-8 Big Ten) was held to three hits in a 10-2 loss to Northwestern at Rocky and Berenice Miller Park on Sunday afternoon.

Omaha baseball lost a heartbreaking, 13-inning series finale to the North Dakota State Bison Sunday afternoon. For the second week in a row, Omaha (26-16-1, 18-6) drops a 13-inning rubber match. North Dakota State (15-21, 13-11) walked it off with a single to right field. Omaha is now 0-3 in rubber matches and falls to 2-3 in extra-inning games.

Softball

The Nebraska softball team (21-30, 9-14 Big Ten) fell to Wisconsin (38-11, 15-8 Big Ten) on Sunday in the regular-season finale by a score of 4-2. Nebraska had plenty of chances to score though, recording six hits, five walks and getting two free bases on a pair of Badger errors, but the Huskers couldn’t take advantage of the opportunities, leaving nine runners on base. Despite the loss, Nebraska has booked its ticket to the Big Ten Tournament and will play on Thursday.

The Creighton softball team concluded its 2019 season with a 9-7 victory against Seton Hall on Sunday afternoon at the Creighton Sports Complex. The win pushed the Bluejays’ final record to 20-24 overall and 8-13 during BIG EAST play.
