MOLINE, Ill. – Midland University’s bowling teams took to the lanes at the 19th Annual Leatherneck Classic in Moline, Illinois this past weekend. The women qualified first out of 34 teams and then won the tournament with solid play throughout the weekend. The men were 13th after qualifying and failed to make the eight-team bracket.
In the quarterfinal round the Lady Warriors swept 8th-seeded Robert Morris with back-to-back games of 195. Against St. Francis in the semifinal round they increased their scores to 206 and 204 and swept the Saints to advance to the championship round.
Waiting for them in the other lane was St. Xavier. The Cougars won in three-games in their quarterfinal match against Lindenwood before sweeping St. Ambrose.
Midland took the first game 223-217 in the championship match before dropping the second game 211-192. In the final game of the tournament, the Warriors were able to knock down more pins than their counterparts, winning 206-191.
Brittney Schnicke made it a clean sweep of titles for the Midland women as she won the individual title and was named to the all-tournament team.
The 5th-ranked Midland women and 9th-ranked Midland men will take a little time off before their next tournament. The Warriors will travel to Addison, Illinois for the Warhawk Open on December 7-8.
