HASTINGS, Neb. – This past weekend the Midland University bowling teams travels down the road to compete in the Bronco Open. The Warriors’ men’s team finished fifth out of fifteen teams, and the women’s finished second out of eleven teams during the two-day contest.
The men faced an uphill battle most of the weekend but never quit competing. They struggled on the tough 37′ pattern and with some spare shooting. Despite this, they fought hard all weekend and qualified 7th. They faced Waldorf in the first round of match play and after taking the first game, had a few bad breaks in the third game, losing 1-2 to finish tied for 5th.
As for the Lady Warriors, the team got off to a slow start for the second straight week, but were able to turn it around and put together a strong finish to climb into second place during qualifying. In the first round of match play, the Lady Warriors made quick work of Iowa Central, winning 2-0. Then in a rematch from a few weeks ago with Ottawa, the Lady Warriors defeated the Braves 2-0 to advance to the championship.
Having lost to Hasting in the Jayhawk Collegiate a couple of weeks ago, the ladies were looking to turn the tables this weekend. Game one started slow but after Hastings left the door open in the 10th frame, sophomore Brittney Schnicke punched out to win game one by three pins. Midland rode the momentum through game two and won the team title with a 2-0 sweep.
The bowling teams will take a much earned two week break over the Thanksgiving holiday before competing in the Warhawk Challenge on December 1st and 2nd in Addison, Illinois.
