FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University came away with a split this past weekend with No. 14 McKendree University. The Warriors took the opener 2-1 before falling to the Bearcats 4-1 in the finale. Midland is now 3-1 on the year while McKendree has record of 2-2.
On Saturday afternoon the Lady Warriors go on the board first as Isabelle Uhl-Chmiel scored an unassisted goal 3:02 into the game. McKendree would tie things up near the end of the second and that is where it stood for over 20 minutes of action.
In the final period with time winding down Kenzie Bertolas scored the game-winner off of an assist from Savanah Wright. Midland was outshot by McKendree 23-17 on the day but made good on fewer attempt for the victory.
Sunday’s game saw a much more aggressive play out of the Warriors as they put up 33 shots. McKendree matched that effort putting up 33 of their own. The Warriors however were able to match the defensive effort of the Bearcats though as they lost 4-1.
Midland’s lone goal came in the first period as Wright scored on a power play from Uhl-Chmiel and Robin Hatcher in the first period.
Midland will be back on the ice this weekend at home as they host University of Nebraska. Puck drop on Friday night is set for 7:00 p.m. while Saturday’s game will begin at 4:00 p.m. All of the Warriors home games are played at Sidner Ice Arena in Fremont, Nebraska.
