Husker Update: Men’s Basketball, Golf News for 2/25

Men’s Basketball

A shorthanded Nebraska team rallied from a double-digit deficit to force a tie game early in the second half, but Illinois responded with an 11-1 run to regain control and defeat the Huskers 71-59 on Monday night at the State Farm Center.
Nebraska (7-20, 2-14 Big Ten Conference) trailed by six points at halftime and faced the same deficit three minutes into the second half when senior guard Haanif Cheatam made a free throw and junior guard Thorir Thornbjarnarson scored in the paint.
Nebraska returns home Thursday night to face Ohio State at Pinnacle Bank Arena. The game is set for 8 PM (CT)

Golf

Kate Smith tied for runner-up honors by posting the second-best 54-hole tournament score (203) in Nebraska women’s golf history on Tuesday at the Westbrook Spring Invitational.
Smith, a senior from Detroit Lakes, Minn., led Nebraska with an even-par 72 in the final round to close the tournament at 13-under-par 203 (65-66-72). Her three-round tournament total on the par-72, 6,222-yard layout of the Vistas Course at the Westbrook Village Golf Club was just one stroke back of her own school-record 202 that she set at Westbrook in 2018.
The Huskers return to action in Arizona to compete at the Clover Cup hosted by Notre Dame at the Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, March 13-15.
