UC Riverside used hot shooting from the 3-point line and capitalized on Nebraska’s cold shooting to take a 66-47 win, spoiling the debut of new Husker Coach Fred Hoiberg.

The Highlanders went 8-of-15 from 3-point range in the second half to break open a four-point halftime lead. DJ McDonald came off the bench for UC Riverside and had 15 points, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range, to lead four players in double figures.

The Huskers return to action on Saturday afternoon when they host Southern Utah. Tipoff is at 1 p.m.

Nebraska opens its 2019-20 regular season by battling Alabama A&M on Wednesday, Nov. 6. Tip-off against the Bulldogs is set for noon (CT) at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln.

The special noon tip time follows the Nebraska Life Skills Sportsmanship Pep Rally at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Nearly 2,000 elementary and middle-grades students from 27 school districts around Nebraska will converge on the arena to hear inspirational messages from Husker student-athletes and coaches, including Nebraska Head Coach Amy Williams and Alabama A&M Head Coach Margaret Richards – a former Husker. The Sportsmanship Pep Rally starts at 9:30 a.m.

Doors to the arena for pre-registered schools in the Pep Rally open at 8:30 a.m. Doors to the arena for the basketball game will open at 11 a.m. – just 60 minutes prior to tip-off, rather than the normal 90 minutes.

The seventh-ranked Nebraska volleyball team returns to the Devaney Center on Wednesday for an 8 p.m. match against Northwestern. The match will be broadcast on Big Dog Country, 98.9 FM and 1340 AM with the Husker Sports Network coverage beginning at 7:30pm.

The Nebraska wrestling team will officially begin the 2019-20 season when it hosts the Nebraska Duals on Nov. 7 at the Devaney Center. The four-team event is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. and will include Nebraska-Kearney, Chadron State and Hastings College in addition to the Huskers.

Nebraska and Chadron State will wrestle one another at 6:30 p.m. while Hastings College and Nebraska-Kearney grapple simultaneously one mat away. At the conclusion of these match-ups, the Huskers will square off against the Lopers while Chadron State scraps with Hastings College.
