Husker Update: Basketball, Rifle Sports, Baseball, Track Updates for 2/28

Men’s Basketball

Dachon Burke Jr. and Cam Mack combined for 25 points, but No. 23 Ohio State rode a hot start until a 75-54 win over Nebraska Thursday evening.
Burke led NU with 13 points, while Mack added 12, but Ohio State (19-9, 9-8 Big Ten) limited the Huskers to 36 percent shooting, including 3-of-16 from 3-point range.
The Huskers return to action on Sunday afternoon, taking on Northwestern Sunday afternoon at 3:15 p.m. Senior day ceremonies for Haanif Cheatham and Matej Kavas is set for 2:55 p.m.

Women’s Basketball

No. 22 Indiana erupted on a 23-4 surge in the first six minutes of the fourth quarter, as the Nebraska women’s basketball team dropped an 81-53 decision to the Hoosiers at Assembly Hall on Thursday night.
Sophomore Leigha Brown led the Huskers with 22 points, but Hannah Whitish was the only other Nebraska player to manage double figures with 11, as NU shot a season-low 27.9 percent (17-61) from the field. The Huskers hit just 25 percent (4-16) from three-point range, including just 1-for-5 in the second half.
The Huskers will return to action at the Big Ten Tournament in Indianapolis, March 4-8.

Rifle Sports

The Nebraska Rifle team captured several awards at the annual Great American Rifle Conference awards banquet, held today in Memphis, Tenn., before the GARC Championships start tomorrow.
As a team, Nebraska was the third-place regular-season GARC finisher.
Individually, several Huskers earned a variety of awards. Senior captain Maddie Korthas was named Nebraska Scholar-Athlete. Emily Cheramie and Hana Musser earned All-GARC Honorable Mention in Smallbore. Elena Flake and Macey Way earned All-GARC Second Team in Air Rifle. Flake earned a spot on the All-GARC Combined Guns Second Team, while Cheramie was named All-GARC Combined Guns Honorable Mention.

Baseball

The Nebraska baseball team (1-5) looks to bounce back this weekend when the Huskers visit No. 12 Arizona State (6-3) for a three-game series at Phoenix Municipal Stadium in Phoenix, Ariz.
The Huskers and Sun Devils open their series on Friday, starting at 7:30 p.m. (CT)/6:30 p.m. (MT). Saturday’s game is also scheduled for 7:30 p.m. (CT)/6:30 p.m. (MT) before Sunday’s finale, slated for 1:30 p.m. (CT)/12:30 p.m. (MT).

Track & Field

The Nebraska track and field team visits Geneva, Ohio, this weekend for the Big Ten Indoor Championships at the SPIRE Institute. The meet starts on Friday with combined events at 9:50 a.m. (CT) and will commence on Saturday with combined events beginning at 10 a.m. (CT).
