CHI. CUBS 8 – Pittsburgh 2… Albert Almora hit a two-run homer, Anthony Rizzo drove in two runs and the Cubs cruised past the Pirates. Jon Lester (10-7) allowed just a run on five hits over six innings.

 

WASHINGTON 4 – Philadelphia 3… Trea Turner stroked a two-run single during a three-run bottom of the sixth inning that carried the Nationals past the Phillies and reduced Washington’s magic number for clinching the National League East title to four. Tanner Roark (12-8) gave up three runs on seven hits over six innings.

 

N.Y. METS 7 – Cincinnati 2… Brandon Nimmo smacked a pair of homers and knocked in three runs to lead the Mets past the Reds. Juan Lugares added a solo homer for New York. Matt Harvey (5-4) surrendered two runs on five hits over five innings.

 

ATLANTA 6 – Miami 5… The Braves scored twice in the bottom of the ninth inning to knock off the Marlins. Kurt Suzuki singled home Freddie Freeman with the winning run after Ozzie Albies delivered a game-tying RBI double.

 

SAN DIEGO 3 – St. Louis 0… Clayton Richard (7-13) pitched five-hit ball over six innings and three relievers completed the Padres’ blanking of the Cardinals. Wil Myers homered with a runner aboard in the bottom of the seventh inning. Matt Kemp homered with the bases empty for Atlanta.

 

Colorado 9 – L.A. DODGERS 1… Nolan Arenado got things going with a three-run homer in the top of the first inning and the Rockies went on to hand the Dodgers their seventh straight loss. Jonathan Lucroy lifted a sacrifice fly and singled home a run. Carlos Gonzalez went 3-for-5 with a solo homer. Jon Gray (7-4) gave up a run on four hits over six innings.

 

AMERICAN LEAGUE SCORES & STORIES

N.Y. YANKEES 9 – Baltimore 1… Aaron Judge belted his 39th homer during a three-run top of the first inning and the Yankees breezed past the Orioles. Chase Headley, Starlin Castro and Todd Frazier also went deep for New York. Sonny Gray (9-9) limited Baltimore to an unearned run on six hits over 5-2/3 innings.

 

Cleveland 11 – CHI. WHITE SOX 2… The Indians clobbered the White Sox and set a franchise record with their 15th straight win. Erik Gonzalez homered twice and knocked in four runs. Edwin Encarnacion, Francisco Lindor and Greg Allen also circled the bases for Cleveland. Corey Kluber (15-4) held Chicago to two runs on three hits and struck out 13 over seven innings.

 

Minnesota 4 – KANSAS CITY 2… The Twins rallied to score three runs in the top of the ninth inning to upend the Royals. Brian Dozier lifted a game-tying sacrifice fly and Jorge Polanco followed with a two-run single. Robbie Grossman opened the scoring with a fifth-inning homer.
