High School Hall of Fame Coach Joins FHS as New Girl’s Head Coach

FREMONT – Fremont High School is proud to announce the hiring of Kelly Flynn as their new head girls basketball coach.  Nebraska High School Hall of Fame Coach Flynn led South Sioux City High School to 11 state championships and one state runner-up in 16 state tournament appearances.

Flynn was selected as national coach of the year in 2012 by the National High School Athletic Coaches Association and has been awarded numerous state and local coach of the year awards.  Coach Flynn was selected as a head coach for the prestigious McDonald’s All American Game in 2005 and head coach of the WBCA All American Game in 2003 . Flynn’s South Sioux City teams were nationally rated by the USA Today in 8 different seasons, including being ranked number 1 in the country in 2001. Coach Flynn replaces recently retired, and long time successful Tiger coach, Tony Weinandt.

Coach Weinandt retired after posting over 350 career wins including a district runner up record of 17-10 this past season. In addition to the varsity girls basketball position, Coach Flynn will be teaching in the Physical Education Department at Fremont High School.
