Four Warriors Score Double Figures in Win over Sentinels

FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University had four players reach double-digits on Wednesday night as they took care or a pesky Nebraska Christian College team, 88-78. With the win Midland guarantees themselves a winning season as their record moves to 16-12 on the year.

There were a lot of back and forth during the opening half both on the scoreboard and on the court vocally between the Warriors and the Sentinels. There were 10 lead changes and two ties in the opening period as neither team could pull away. Midland’s biggest lead was five while NCC held a four point lead at a few junctures. The Warriors would take a 41-38 lead to the locker room at halftime.

In the second half the Sentinels quickly found themselves in foul trouble as four players were saddled with three fouls with over 14 minutes to play. Midland continued attacking the paint and found themselves at the free throw line often. However, they were unable to take advantage as they went just 9-19 in the second half and were 16-33 for the game.

With the Sentinels to two front court players sitting on the bench, the Warriors went from tied at 50-50 at the 15:16 on the clock to up by nine points with 8:07 to play. They would keep the visitors at arm’s length the rest of the way and then in the final minute Ryan Williams sealed the victory with a three pointer to make it 86-78 and then Nick Wood put a bow on it with a vicious dunk for the ten point win.

Wood reestablished his career-high for the second straight game as he posted 36 points on 14 of 17 shooting. He also pulled down seven rebounds to lead the team in both categories. Williams finished with 12 points while Marti Fonolla and Shak Triplett also reached double digits 11 points each.

Midland, who is riding a season-high five game winning streak, will turn its attention back to the GPAC this weekend as they hit the road to take on No. 10 Northwestern. The Warriors and Red Raiders will square off at 4:00 p.m. inside the Bultman Center in Orange City, Iowa on Saturday, February 10th.
