Collegiate Soccer: Mavs, Jays & Husker Teams Continue Season

OMAHA – Omaha won its first Summit League road game since Oct. 5, 2014, defeating Fort Wayne 1-0 on Thursday evening at the Hefner Soccer Complex. With the win, the Mavericks improved to 4-6-1 overall and 1-0 in Summit League play.  The Mastodons dropped to 1-10 on the season and 0-1 in the conference.

The Mavericks return to action on Friday, Oct. 6 against South Dakota State.  Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. in Brookings, S.D.

The Creighton Lady Blue Jays lost their game, after being forced to play a person down due to a questionable Red Card in the 87th minute. The Creighton women’s soccer team battled St. John’s into a second overtime before falling 1-0 to the Red Storm on Thursday, Sept. 28.

The loss dropped Creighton to 2-8-1 on the season and 0-2-0 in BIG EAST play, while St. John’s moved to 5-5-1 overall and 1-1-0 in conference action. Creighton returns to the pitch on Sunday, Oct. 1 as the Bluejays host DePaul at 1:00 pm.

The Nebraska soccer team (6-3-1, 0-1-1 Big Ten) hits the road this weekend to visit the Great Lakes State for a pair of Big Ten matches.

Friday night’s match against Michigan State, set for 5 p.m. (CT) in East Lansing, Mich., will mark the 500th match in Nebraska soccer history. It is the same milestone for Head Coach John Walker, who is in his 24th season at the helm of the Husker program. The match will be streamed live on BTN Plus, with a subscription required to watch.

NU finishes its road trip against Michigan on Sunday at 1 p.m. (CT) in Ann Arbor, Mich.
