Collegiate Basketball Update: Husker Women, Creighton, Lady Mavericks

Husker Women

The Nebraska women’s basketball team will try to salvage a season series split with Maryland when the Huskers take on the No. 7 Terrapins Thursday in College Park.

Tip off between Nebraska (11-13, 6-7 Big Ten) and Maryland (22-2, 11-2 Big Ten) is set for 7 p.m.


Creighton had three shots in the final 10 seconds to tie it, but could not drain the game-tying three-pointer and fell 64-61 in overtime at Xavier on Wednesday, Feb. 13.

Naji Marshall scored 10 of his team-high 23 points in the final 6:32 to help defending BIG EAST champion Xavier snap a six-game losing streak and improve to 12-13 (4-8 BIG EAST). Creighton dropped to 13-12 (4-8 BIG EAST) with its third loss in as many games on an extended road trip.

Creighton will play four of its final six BIG EAST games at home, starting with Sunday’s 2 p.m. tip vs. Seton Hall.

Lady Mavericks

The Omaha women’s basketball team lost an 82-38 decision to South Dakota State on Wednesday at Baxter Arena.

Freshman Mariah Murdie finished with her first career double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.  Sophomore Emily Peters added 10 points, while sophomore Claire Killian scored seven points.

Tagyn Larson scored a game-high 27 points on 11-of-11 shooting from the field, including five 3-pointers.  Larson also had nine rebounds and four blocked shots.  Myah Selland scored 11 points and had five assists.  Madison Guebert chipped in 10 points, four steals and three assists.
