Bergan Takes Down Gretna in First Round at State Baseball

LINCOLN – Gretna couldn’t come back from five runs down in the fifth inning, and they fell 5-3 to Archbishop Bergan on Saturday.

Bergan took the lead on a groundout in the first inning, added another groundout by Brody Sintek, scoring one run, and scored three more runs in the fifth inning. The offensive onslaught by Archbishop Bergan was led by Mitchell Glause, Donnie Mueller, and Brennan Callahan.

Sintek earned the victory from the pitcher’s mound for Bergan, surrendering just three runs on six hits over six innings, and striking out six Gretna hitters. Brady Benson also pitched relief for one inning, getting the last three outs to secure the win for Bergan. All total, Bergan racked up seven hits in the game, with multiple hits coming from Eli Herink and Austin Callahan.

Bergan will move forward in the State Baseball tournament Tuesday at 7:00PM when they take on the winner of the Millard West/Creighton Prep match. That game was rain delayed on Saturday and will instead be played today, Monday 5/13, at 1:00PM. Bergan’s Tuesday night game will be broadcast on Big Dog 98.9 & 1340. (LISTEN ONLINE)
