Basketball Briefs: Creighton Picks Up Win, UNO Falls to AZ State

Shooting better that 60 percent from the field, the Creighton men’s basketball team defeated Montana 98-72 on Wednesday, Nov. 28.

The win lifted the Bluejays to 6-1 on the season, while Montana fell to 4-2 overall.

The Bluejays return to action on Saturday, Dec. 1 as Creighton hosts No. 1 Gonzaga at 1:00 pm in the CHI Health Center Omaha.


The Omaha men’s basketball team continued its road swing Wednesday night, falling 89-71 to Arizona State at Wells Fargo Arena. The Mavericks are now 3-5 on the season, while the Sun Devils improve to 6-0.

Zach Jackson led a contingent of three double-figure scorers for the Mavericks, finishing with 17 points on four 3-pointers. Matt Pile shot 7-of-8 en route to 15 points with a team-high five rebounds, an assist, a steal and two blocks. JT Gibson added 12 points with four 3-pointers.
Arizona State’s Zylan Cheatham was an assist shy of a triple-double, finishing with 13 points, 12 rebounds, nine assists and two steals. Luguentz Dort and Taeshon Cherry had 19 points apiece, and Kimani Lawrence added 18.

After a seven-day break, Omaha returns to action at Seattle on Thursday, Dec. 6. Tipoff is set for 9 p.m. CT
