In senior legion baseball action last night, Omaha South defeated Blair, 2-1.

The First State Bank American Legion junior and senior baseball teams begin their seasons tonight.  The seniors play at Columbus in a 5pm doubleheader.  The juniors host South Sioux City in a 5pm doubleheader at Novak Field.

Big Ten Baseball

The Big Ten Baseball Tournament continues at TD Ameritrade Park.  Top-Seed Minnesota and #2 seed Purdue are the lone unbeaten.  Today, Michigan plays Ohio State in an elimination game at 3:30, then at 7:30, Illinois takes on Indiana.

Storm Chasers

After turning a key twin-killing in the top of the ninth, Storm Chasers second baseman Jack Lopez crushed a walk-off home run to lead off to bottom of the ninth, Omaha’s fourth home run of the evening after fifth-inning blasts from left fielder Ryan O’Hearn , catcher Cam Gallagher and shortstop Humberto Arteaga , in an 11-10 back-and-forth victory over the New Orleans Baby Cakes on Thursday evening at Werner Park.

Following their series victory, the Storm Chasers continue their nine-day homestand by starting a five-game series versus the Round Rock Express beginning Friday evening at Werner Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm CT. RHP Trevor Oaks(2-3, 2.68) is anticipated to get the nod for Omaha, with Round Rock slated to send LHP David Hurlbut (1-3, 4.91) to the hill.

Saltdogs

Christian Ibarra scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth inning and the Lincoln Saltdogs beat the Wichita Wingnuts 6-5 on their second walk-off of the season.

The Haymarket Park magic yielded nine walk-off wins in 2017 and the second walk-off win of 2018 helps Lincoln (4-3) secure a series sweep of the Wichita (2-4).  The ‘Dogs have won four straight after starting the season 0-3.

The Saltdogs embark on a 10-game road trip on Friday starting in Fargo.  First pitch against the RedHawks is at 7:02 PM
