Baseball Bytes: FSB Takes District Title & Moo Sweeps Series – July 25


The First State Bank American Legion Seniors Baseball team won the Area A-6 Tournament last night, 6-0 over Gretna at Pawnee Park in Columbus, claiming the district championship.  Mitchell Glause pitched the complete game shutout, scattering seven hits, striking out four and walking none.  Glause talked about what worked for him on the mound:

Brody Sintek went 2-2 with a pair of singles and two runs scored. He felt pretty good about his performance:

First State scored five runs in the bottom of the second inning and added an unearned run in the fourth.  Head Coach Jeff Hayden talked about the win:

Gretna is now 26-15 and will play in the Class A National Division Playoffs in Kearney, Saturday, versus Kearney, at 7pm.

First State is 27-7 and will play in the Class A American Division Playoffs in Omaha, Saturday versus Omaha Creighton Prep at Prep’s Jurgensen Field.  First pitch on Saturday morning at 10AM. That game will be broadcast on Big Dog 98.9/1340.

Fremont Moo

The Fremont Moo had never swept a three-game series in their short history heading into Wednesday night’s contest against the Souris Valley Sabre Dogs. After winning the first two games of a three-game set, the opportunity presented itself in front of one of the best crowds of the year as Fremont held Souris Valley scoreless from the fourth inning on en route to their sixth consecutive victory, by a score of 3-2.

The Moo will take to the road on Thursday to begin a crucial four-game series with the Casper Horseheads which may determine which team takes the second seed in the Clark Division of the Expedition League playoffs. First pitch in Casper for Thursday’s contest is slated for 7:35.


In Dodge County Baseball League Playoff action last night, Wahoo defeated Leigh/Schuyler, 10-0, in seven innings.

Omaha Storm Chasers

The Omaha Storm Chasers made some noise in the seventh inning and again in the ninth, but ultimately failed to get on the board at Dell Diamond, falling 3-0. LHP Eric Skoglund pitched six innings, holding the Round Rock Express to three runs, while the bullpen kept a clean sheet.

The two teams are set to play the rubber match in their three game series this evening at 7:05pm CST.

Lincoln Saltdogs

John Brownell tossed six innings and allowed just two runs, but the ‘Dogs didn’t have a baserunner beyond the 1st inning in a 3-0 loss to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks Wednesday night at Haymarket Park.

Game 2 of the three-game series is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., tonight.
