A matchup which pitted the two teams in line for the final playoff spots in their respective Expedition League divisions lived up to its billing on Monday night. The Fremont Moo and the Pierre Trappers fought tooth and nail for bragging rights in the series opener of a three-game set. Fremont ultimately came out on top of with an 8-7 extra inning victory thanks to clutch plays throughout the extra frame.
The win gives Fremont their first extra inning victory in the third such contest in team history. Kale Parks tied his single-game high for strikeouts with eight. Cedric Girard earned the win (1-1) while Tom Ginther earned his team leading fourth save of the campaign. Pacing the Moo offensively was Jack Simonsen who went 3-5 with an RBI.
The Moo will wrap up the three-game set Tuesday with a doubleheader beginning at 5:05. Both contests will only last seven innings.

Curt Smith hit the first grand slam of the year, and the ‘Dogs rallied to sweep the Canaries at Sioux Falls Stadium on Monday night.
After the ‘Dogs continued Game 2 from Sunday and picked up in the fourth inning of an eventual 14-9 win Monday evening, Smith hit a grand slam that flipped a two-run deficit into a two-run lead with the ‘Dogs down to their final strike in the finale.
In the second game, Ivan Marin hit a bases-clearing triple and added his second homer of the year. After Tyler Anderson started the game Sunday, John Brownell picked up the resumed game in the 4th inning and earned his fifth win of the year – allowing four runs over 4.2 innings, in the 6-5 victory.
The ‘Dogs return home to begin a six-game homestand on Tuesday night against the Sioux City Explorers. First-pitch time is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
