Baseball Bytes: CWS Down to the Wire, Local Baseball in Full Swing


Michigan is a win away from capturing the national title at the 2019 College World Series. In Game 1 of the CWS finals Monday night, the Wolverines stormed past Vanderbilt 7-4.

Jimmy Kerr hit his third homer of the 2019 College World Series and drove in his seventh and eighth RBIs. Joe Donovan also homered and every Wolverine picked up at least one hit.

On the mound, Tommy Henry went 8.1 innings in his second win of the CWS. The lefty struck out eight and allowed three earned runs.

Game 2 will be played 6:00 tonight, with Wednesday’s (if necessary) Game 3 scheduled for the same time. Another win for Michigan will clinch its first national championship since 1962.


Tonight, the First State Bank American Legion junior and senior baseball teams host Lincoln Pius X, at Novak Field.  The juniors play at 5:00 and the seniors play at 7:30.  The seniors game will be broadcast on Big Dog 98.9 FM and 1340 AM.

The First State Bank Reserve Legion baseball team plays at Lincoln Northeast tonight.  Game time is 6:30pm.
