Baseball Briefs: Blair Downs West Point in Tournament Action

Cuming County Fair Tournament

At the Cuming County Fair in West Point last night, Scribner defeated Pender, while Blair downed West Point in extra innings.  Tomorrow at 1:00, Scribner and Blair will play in the semifinals.  Tonight, Wahoo plays Dodge at 5:00 and Leigh/Schuyler takes on Arlington at 7:30.

Central Plains Legion Tournament

At the Central Plains American Legion Baseball Tournament in Dickinson, North Dakota, West Fargo, North Dakota beat Millard West 2-0 and Dubuque County, Iowa beat Omaha Burke, 12-1.  At 2:00 today, Millard West plays Rapid City, South Dakota and at 4:30, Omaha Burke plays New Brighton, Minnesota, in elimination round games.

Omaha Storm Chasers

Jon Dziedzic kept Round Rock off the board, Ramon Torres homered, and the Storm Chasers cruised to a 9-0 victory over the Express on Thursday night at Dell Diamond.

The Storm Chasers (53-62) will continue the series at Dell Diamond tonight at 7:05. RHP Arnaldo Hernandez (2-1, 5.33) will face Round Rock’s RHP Chris Rowley (0-2, 8.38).

Lincoln Saltdogs

The Lincoln Saltdogs drew a season-high 10 walks and beat the Texas AirHogs 9-4 in the series opener at Haymarket Park.

The five-run victory marked the first time since July 3rd that the Saltdogs (36-40) beat an opponent by more than four runs.

Joe Bircher earned the win after going six innings and allowing three runs on six hits.  It was his second straight quality start and the fourth straight quality start from a Saltdogs pitcher.

The Saltdogs try to win their third straight tonight. First pitch is at 7:06 PM.
