2018 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championship Preview

GULF SHORES, Ala. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) will host the 2018 Outdoor Track & Field National Championships beginning on Thursday at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Midland University will have six athletes competing in the three-day meet.

Avery Blahauvietz qualified in the women’s hammer throw. Her best throw this spring of 166’ 1” came at the Prairie Wolf Invitational back in April. She comes into nationals ranked 19th in the field of 32 athletes.

Nathan Houser and Reid Kirlin both qualified for the men’s hammer throw. Nathan has a season-best of 199’ 4” which he set in April at the Concordia Invite, which is 3rd best in the field of 22 throwers. Reid has a season-best of 175’ 8” set at the Kansas Relays in April. He ranks 15th in the event.

Both Houser and Kirlin will also be competing in the men’s discus throw as well. Nathan ranks 11th in the field of 30 with a season-best of 163’ 11” set at the Concordia Invite while Reid is ranked 28th with his best throw of 157’ 2” coming at the Prairie Wolf Invitational.

Isaiah Brown comes into the meet with the third best mark in the men’s pole vault. He cleared 16’ 0.75” at the GPAC Championships earlier this month. He will be competing in a field of 25 vaulters on the men’s side.

In the running events, Braska Patterson and Kasey Reeves both qualified for the marathon. They both set their best marks at the Midland Spring Half Marathon back in March. Braska ranks 20th of 44 runners in the women’s marathon with a time of half-marathon time of 1:28:36.24. Kasey ranks 49th out of 61 runners in the men’s marathon with a time of 1:14:16.24 in the half-marathon.

Updated scoring of the meet is available here. Scores are calculated at the end of the finals for each event.
