Weekend Traffic Stops Lead to Drug Charges

FREMONT – Two traffic stops resulted in drug and alcohol charges this weekend when Fremont Police stopped two men for moving violations and discovered open containers of alcohol and illicit substances in both vehicles. Both men also had suspended licenses.

On Friday 04/06/2018 at approximately 11:30AM Justin E. Abney, 28, of Fremont was arrested following a traffic stop in the 2300 block of north Lincoln Avenue.  Abney was stopped after he was observed operating a motor vehicle by a Fremont officer who knew Abney’s license was suspended.  Upon contact with Abney the odor of marijuana was emanating from his vehicle. A search of his vehicle yielded marijuana in a glass jar and drug paraphernalia including a digital scale and rolling papers.  Abney was charged with Driving during Suspension, Possession of Marijuana less than one ounce, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

On Sunday 04/08/2018 at approximately 12:50PM Casey L. Stewart, 32, of Fremont was arrested following a traffic stop in the 3000 block of east 23rd Street.  Steward was observed operating a motor vehicle with no license plates.  During the stop an open alcoholic beverage container was observed in the vehicle as well as a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.  It was also learned that Stewart’s license was revoked.  He was charged with Driving during Revocation, Possession or Consumption of an Open Alcoholic Container, Possession of Marijuana less than one Ounce, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
