VALLEY – The Valmont plant near Valley, NE was evacuated this morning around 7:30AM, as a nearby levee was breached.
A flood warning has been in effect for this portion of Douglas county for most of the last 24 hours, as torrential rain combined with snow melt and ice jams on rivers continues to lead to historic flooding throughout eastern Nebraska and western Iowa.
Water began to rise to unsafe levels after a nearby dike was overtopped with floodwaters and the management at Valmont made the decision to evacuate the factory entirely. One employee reported that this is the first evacuation they’ve experienced in over 32 years.
Other locations throughout Valley are also being evacuated due to flooding. Residents are urged to follow all instructions from authorities, and if asked to evacuate or if notified of voluntary evacuations – don’t wait.
