Two Cited for Animal Neglect After Leaving Dogs in Car While Shopping

FREMONT – Two Fremont women were cited on charges of animal neglect this weekend after leaving their animals locked in their vehicles during the hottest part of the day on Saturday.

Just before 6PM police responded to calls for assistance in the 3000 block of East 23rd street after passersby observed dogs in two separate cars displaying signs of distress and heat illness. Neither vehicle had air conditioning running, and neither dog had been left with water.

As a result, two individuals, 61 year old Janet Christo and 49 year old Chrystal Plantenga, were cited and released for Animal Neglect.

If you see a pet left in a car, please call the Fremont Police Department’s non-emergency line at  (402) 727-2677.
