Tuesday Night Collision With Utility Pole Causes $10K in Damage

FREMONT – A hit and run accident where a car struck a city utility caused thousands of dollars in damage and lead to a criminal citation.

On Tuesday night, around 9:00PM, a city utility pole was found damaged in the 1000 block of north Lincoln Avenue.  Witnesses described a black car hitting the pole and then fleeing the scene. Investigating officers found a vehicle’s license plate left at the scene, and using the registration information from the plate located the vehicle.

Officers located a black 2003 Toyota 4Runner at the registered address, and it was damaged consistent with the incident as described. Benjamin D. DeSilva, 20, of Fremont  was identified as the driver at the time of the collision, and he was cited on suspicion of leaving the scene of a property damage accident.

Damage to the utility pole is estimated at $5,000.00. Damage to the 4Runner is also an estimated $5,000.00.
