FREMONT – Police say an Iowa man has confessed to a hit-and-run accident at Jack’s Liquor on Sunday, October 22nd.
Jorge Alberto Cruz Aguilar, age 24 of Cresco, Iowa was arrested and charged with criminal mischief in the amount of $5,000 or more, which is a Class IV Felony. Lt. Ed Watts with the Fremont Police Department says Detective Matt Hultquist handled the investigation.
“Detective Hultquist ascertained an arrested warrant based on the information that he had developed during his investigation,” said Lt. Watts. “Mr. Aguilar agreed to come in for an interview, in which he basically confessed and accepted responsibility for the accident. Mr. Aguilar said it was an accident, and he basically panicked and drove off.”
The accident occurred at approximately 7:45 p.m. on October 22nd. A red Jeep Grand Cherokee parked in front of Jack’s Liquor reversed through the multiple panes of storefront glass. The vehicle had almost completely entered the building before fleeing the scene.
The accident resulted in over $15,000 in property loss and damage to the store. Jack’s Liquor was closed for the remainder of Sunday, all of Monday and Tuesday, and part of Wednesday.
