State Basketball Semifinals Today; Championship Games Tomorrow

LINCOLN – All four of our local teams at State took home wins yesterday, and all four will vie for a shot at the State Championship today as the semifinals begin in Lincoln today.

In Class D1, Bergan vs. Elm Creek at the Devaney Center starts at 9AM. Yesterday, Bergan went 73-64 in a big win over Fullerton. Elm Creek beat Lourdes Central Catholic by almost twenty points in their first round of tournament play. Rich Ray will be broadcasting live from the Devaney Center on Big Dog 98.9 and 1340. Over on The Best Mix 105.5, Brian Abrahams will be calling the Class C1 action as Wahoo takes on Auburn from the Pinnacle Bank Arena. Wahoo is looking likely for another win here after defeating Boys Town 64-50. Auburn narrowly escaped round one elimination, winning by a single basket in Thursday play. Right after the Wahoo game, we’ll stay with Class C1 action as North Bend Central goes head to head with Ogallala around 10:45am on The Best Mix 105.5. Ogallala is the number one seed in this class, but only won their Thursday match-up against #8 Milford by a single point in a 55-54 nailbiter. North Bend Central, the number four seed, won their Thursday game against Adams Central 42-37. (LISTEN ONLINE)

Number six seed for Class C2, Yutan defeated #3 Sutton yesterday 55-45. This afternoon, the Yutan Chieftans will go up against Ponca at the  Devaney Center. Yutan and Ponca look evenly matched – Ponca defeated Bridgeport 54-32 yesterday. Tipoff for this semifinal game is 2PM, and the game will be broadcast on Big Dog 98.9 and 1340. (LISTEN ONLINE)

Championship and consolation play will take place on Saturday. If Bergan wins today, they’ll play for the D1 State Championship at 11am. Otherwise, the D1 consolation game will be Saturday at 1PM. Either game will be broadcast on Big Dog 98.9 and 1340. (LISTEN ONLINE)

On Saturday, our Class C1 winners will play for the State Championship at 9AM, or fall into the consolation game at 11am.
