Shickley Principal Selected for Norfolk High

NORFOLK – District leaders have selected the next leader of Norfolk High School.

District superintendent Dr. Jami Jo Thompson announced in a news release on Monday that current Shickley Public Schools principal Derek Ippensen has been selected for the same position in Norfolk.

Ippensen is originally from northeast Nebraska, growing up in West Point, where he graduated high school, then later taught and was an activities director before moving to Shickley.

Word of Ippensen’s selection broke on social media over the weekend, when Ippensen himself expressed excitement at coming to Norfolk:

If approved by the Norfolk School Board on Monday, Ippensen will replace outgoing principal Jake Luhr in July. Luhr is resigning to take the superintendent position in Battle Creek.
