Security Cameras Help FPD Solve Hit & Run Incident

FREMONT – Security cameras helped the Fremont Police solve a hit-and-run property damage crime yesterday after two pieces of property were damaged by a driver who failed to stop at the scene.

Tuesday night at 9:00PM, Fremont Police responded to a two-vehicle hit and run property damage accident in the 800 block of north Main Street.  The reporting victim told police that her 2012 Ford Escape was parked and unoccupied when it was struck by a 2nd vehicle.  The driver of the 2nd vehicle fled without leaving any information.

Investigation at the scene revealed that a fence surrounding an adjacent property was also damaged in the incident, and the owner of that residence had security cameras around the home.  Using footage from those cameras, officers were able to identify a suspect vehicle  – a 2005 Dodge Durango.

The security cameras recorded footage of a high enough quality that the officers were also able to read the license plate number.  Officers went to the residence of the registered owner of the Durango, ultimately citing the driver –  a teenage boy – on suspicion of leaving the scene of a property damage accident.
