Minor Injuries After Bicyclist Rides Into Traffic, Colliding With Passenger Truck

FREMONT – Only minor injuries were sustained in a collision yesterday, after a bicyclist rode out in front of a passenger truck in afternoon traffic.

At approximately 2:45PM on Wednesday afternoon, Fremont first responders were dispatched to the intersection of 16th and Bell Streets regarding a personal injury collision between a vehicle and a bicyclist.

Matthew T. Sass, 36, of Fremont was driving westbound on 16th Street and had a green light to enter into the intersection of Bell Street.  A 23-year-old male riding a bicycle northbound on the sidewalk of Bell Street then rode into the intersection and collided with Sass’ Ford F150 pickup.

Witnesses at the scene corroborated that the bicyclist failed to yield to Sass.  The bicyclist sustained only minor injuries.  Damage to Sass’ vehicle is estimated at $500 and damage to the bicyclist’s Mongoose bicycle is estimated at $200.00.  Sass was cited on suspicion of driving without his driver’s license.

An earlier version of this post misstated the bicyclist’s age due to an error in the police report.
