Midland University Performing Arts Announces 2018-19 Event Schedule

Fremont, NE – Midland University Performing Arts are pleased to announce the lineup for their upcoming season. Performances will include selections from the departments of theatre, vocal, instrumental, and dance.

The fall season opens with the inspirational Helen Keller-Anne Sullivan biographical play, “The Miracle Worker” by William Gibson. This performance will be followed by the annual “Gospel Honors Choir,” which includes a large composition of singers from Nebraska high school choirs and Midland choral students, led by a guest conductor.
“Disney’s Newsies,” the stage version of the 1992 Disney film, will the featured fall musical.

Leading the musical will be Director Lee Meyer, with choreography by Midland Director of Dance, Katie Speicher. Closing the semester will be Midland Performing Arts’ annual collaborative concert, “Colors of Christmas,” featuring all University ensembles, including the University Band, Choir, Dance department, A Cappella choirs, and the Fremont Pathfinders Chorus. The classic musical, “Once Upon a Mattress” will debut the 2019 season, Performing the fairy tale of the Princess and the Pea.

Entirely student directed and produced, “Clue,” the stage version of the 1985 comedy film, based on the popular board game, will be presented in the spring. The University Band will present their annual “Smorgasbord Concert,” featuring numerous
instrumental chamber ensembles, large ensembles, and solos.

The Midland Theatre Department will conclude the season with another Disney movie-to-stage musical, “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.” Closing spring semester, the nationally recognized, Midland Dance Department, will feature university dance ensembles with their, “Dance Showcase,” featuring student-directed choreography.
The culminating “Spring Music Concert,” featuring the Midland University Choir, will perform the season’s finale.
