Midland U Celebrates 90 Years of Music

FREMONT – Midland University is musical – 90 years strong! The university will celebrate 90 years of music education and performance at Midland with a special anniversary concert featuring the Midland Reunion Choir.

Guest directors and soloists for the concert feature many Midland greats, including Mr. Gene Nelson, who led the Midland Lutheran College choir from 1962-1976. Nelson will be traveling from the state of Washington to direct “Beautiful Savior” just for this concert.

Other alumni returning as directors will include the noted Dr. Scott Peterson from the class of ’74, Larry Monson ’65, Marjorie Simons-Bester ’79 and Patrick Hays ’16. Assistant Music Director and alumna, Kat Ohm Sodawasser ’15, will direct two pieces in memory of the late Jim Elsberry, who served as choir director at Midland for more than three decades.

Soloists will include the talents of Delene Hays McConnaha ’75 and Ryan Dusso ’14.

The Midland University Choir is directed by Mr. Jim Logue, Director of Choral Activities at Midland University. The Clef Dwellers are directed by Mr. Dan Hays, Director of Theater Activities.

The reunion concert will be held on Saturday, April 14, 7PM at First Lutheran Church (3200 E Military Ave, Fremont) and admission is free and open to the public.
