Midland Student Raising Funds to Compete with Team USA Powerlifting

FREMONT – Midland U Powerlifter, Alexandra Chavez, has the once in a lifetime opportunity to join Team USA at an International Powerlifting competition this August – if she can raise the funds to get there.

A Texas native, Alexandra is fairly new to Fremont. “Last year, I was offered the opportunity to lift as a student-athlete on scholarship at Midland University in Fremont,” Alexandra said. “I quickly jumped at the opportunity and have just completed my first year of college.”

Alexandra is a student-athlete at Midland University, a double-major in Mass Communications and Marketing, and a member of the newly established Varsity Powerlifting Team – and she’s strong. At a recent Powerlifting meet in Chicago, Alexandra’s lifts totaled 515kg (1133lbs) with a 205kg (451lbs) squat, 135kg (297lbs) bench, and 175 (385lbs) deadlift. She won a national championship in her division.

Because of this outstanding performance, Alexandra was offered a spot to represent Team USA at the 2019 International Powerlifting Federation Junior Equipped World’s Meet in Canada this August. This opportunity is a rare one – only offered to ten female lifters from across the USA.

Unfortunately, neither USA Powerlifting nor Midland University’s powerlifting team will pay all the expenses for Alexandra’s trip to compete, and the lion’s share of expenses will be on her. As a scholarship student, the $2,000 price tag is daunting – so she’s set up a t-shirt shop and Go Fund Me account in an attempt to raise the funds for this opportunity.

If you’d like to help Alexandra make it to the 2019 International Powerlifting Federation Junior Equipped World’s Meet in Canada this August, you can purchase a shirt or donate directly to her Go Fund Me fundraiser.
