Medicare Plan Comparisons Offered Through Nebraska Extension

FREMONT – If you are a Medicare recipient (or have a family member who is), time is wasting to compare Medicare Prescription Drug Plans and/or Medicare Advantage Plans.

Medicare is changing, and there have been many changes to the drug plans, with old plans leaving, new plans coming in and price and pharmacy changes across the board. Medicare Open Enrollment ends December 7th. You can go to www.medicare.gov and compare health and drug plans yourself; the same site all SHIPP (Senior Health Insurance Information Program) counselors use to compare plans. You can also call 1-800-Medicare (1-800-633-4227) and have them compare plans for you.

Either the website or phone service will require your name, new Medicare number, birthdate and effective date of your Medicare in order to help you – as well as a list of all your prescriptions.

If you prefer a face to face comparison, SHIPP counselors are available to meet in person, by appointment only, through county extension offices.  For an appointment in Washington County call 402-426-9455, and in Dodge County call the Dodge County office at 402-727-2775. The Extension office in Burt County also has a list of Medicare Open Enrollment sessions statewide so you can ask for a certain location to find assistance. Call 402-374-2929 for this information.

Don’t wait as these comparison events are coming up very soon and filling up fast. Invest a little time in a Medicare plan comparison and you’ll know you did everything you can to keep from wasting your money.
