Man Killed After Accident on Viaduct Near Wahoo

WAHOO – Four passenger vehicles and a semi trailer were involved in a Thanksgiving day accident that resulted in a single fatality.

The Saunders County Sheriff and Wahoo Police department investigated the crash, which ocurred on Thanksgiving around 6PM on the Highway 77 viaduct west of Wahoo. Four vehicles were apparently involved in a collision in the northbound lane on the viaduct when one man, Gene Lefler, 65, of Bennington, got out of his vehicle to check on one of the other drivers.

As Lefler was walking, a northbound semi lost control on the ice and jackknifed, striking the viaduct. Lefler was thrown from the top of the viaduct due to the impact. He was taken to Saunders Medical Center before transport to Bryan West in Lincoln where he was pronounced deceased.

There were no other injuries.
