Man Assaults Officer, Flees on Foot After Apparent Road Rage Incident

FREMONT – Police arrested one man on Christmas eve after an apparent road rage incident boiled over into assault on a police officer and a foot pursuit.

A citizen driving a vehicle on Broad street between Military and Linden reported that a man in a late model grey pick-up truck was chasing him for an unknown reason. Police responded and an officer caught up to the truck near 12th and Broad Streets. The driver of the pick-up, Eric E. Lowther, 36, of Fremont became belligerent with the responding officer. He had no valid ID and refused to identify himself.

The officer attempted to put handcuffs on Lowther, but Lowther resisted and punched the officer in the face. After assaulting the officer, Lowther ran from the scene and a foot pursuit ensued. Lowther was caught after a short chase, continued to resist arrest, but was eventually placed under arrest. He was charged with 3rd Degree Assault on an Officer, Disturbing the Peace, Disorderly Conduct and Willful Reckless Driving.

Following his arrest, officers searched Lowther’s vehicle, discovering a pair of brass knuckles and drug paraphernalia. Lowther, a convicted felon, was additionally charged with Possession of a Weapon (brass knuckles) by a Felon and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
