FREMONT – Police arrested a Wahoo man this weekend after he broke into a woman’s home to assault her in the middle of the night.
On Sunday at approximately 1:24AM, Fremont Police arrested one Derek L. Whelan, 40, of Wahoo, NE on numerous felony charges following a disturbing incident at a residence in the 1100 block of west 8th Street. Whelan is accused of forcibly entering a residence of an acquaintance and attacking her. Investigating officers noted signs of damage to the door of the residence consistent with forcible entry. Whelan put the victim into a “headlock,” obstructing her breathing and attempting to strangle her. Whelan is charged with Strangulation, 3rd Degree Domestic Assault, Criminal Mischief and Disorderly Conduct.

A two vehicle property damage accident on Friday evening appeared to be, at least partially, due to a driver under the influence of alcohol. At approximately 7:00PM Mitchell D. Allen, 64, of Fremont was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol following a 2-vehicle property damage accident in the 1000 block of north Nye Avenue. Allen was the operator of one of the vehicles and showed signs of impairment consistent with the consumption of alcoholic beverages and was arrested and charged with 2nd offense DUI.
Fremont Police stopped to assist a motorist whose vehicle had slid off the roadway, only to discover that the driver was inebriated and underage. On Saturday, at approximately 3:30AM Jaren T. Reed, 20, of Fremont was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol and being a minor in possession of alcohol. The arrest came after an officer stopped to assist Reed whose vehicle had slid off the roadway in the 1100 block of east Linden Avenue. Reed showed signs of impairment consistent with the consumption of alcoholic beverages and he was arrested.
