Local Fundraiser will Provide Hurricane Relief to U.S. Island

ARLINGTON – Area residents are invited to a night of live music and fun family entertainment to help raise money for survivors of two devastating hurricanes.

Save the Pirate’s Paradise is a fundraiser to support relief efforts in St. John, US Virgin Islands. The event was organized by Marta and Joe Janousek who have family on the island, surviving the devastation. Marta Janousek says while their family members are fine and in good health, the same can’t be said for everyone else on the island.

“They were hit with two Category 5 hurricanes within a month of each other. Much of the island was destroyed,” said Janousek. “They lost everything. So I wanted to do something, and we thought we would raise some money to send down to St. John Rescue, and people can help out that way.”

Save the Pirate’s Paradise is scheduled for Saturday at VFW Post 8332 in Arlington. Local band The Lang Brothers will take the stage and entertain the crowd at 9 p.m. Janousek says the event will also include many other fundraising activities.

“We are going to start the event at four o’clock. We are going to have bingo, a bake sale, and dinner plans,” said Janousek. “We’re going to have raffles, and a silent auction.”

The organization committee for the event is still looking for donations to the event. They are looking for raffle prizes and food or desserts. They also still need volunteers to help set up for the event, sell raffles and manage the games, serve food, and clean up after the event.

Anyone who wishes to give a donation but is unable to attend the event can still help. An account has been made at Two Rivers Bank in Arlington under “Save the Pirate’s Paradise” for anyone wishing to donate money.
