FREMONT – Public libraries are a great resource for free access to books, research, the internet – and on Thursday, even a free lunch.
The Keene Memorial Library is hosting a free hot dog lunch on Thursday, October 3rd from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm to celebrate their National Library Card Sign-Up Day.
Since 1987, Library Card Sign-up Month has been held each fall to mark the beginning of the school year. During the month, the American Library Association and libraries unite in a national effort to ensure every child signs-up for their own library card.
Throughout the school year, public librarians and library staff can assist students, parents and caregivers with research and access to materials, potentially saving hundreds of dollars on educational resources and services. From free access to STEAM programs/activities, educational apps, in-person and virtual homework help, technology workshops to the expertise of librarians, a library card is one of the most cost effective back to school supplies available.
The Library Card sign up lunch and event is sponsored in part by the Friends of Keene Memorial Library and Hy-Vee. Hy-vee is providing the hot dogs and chips, and the Friends will be providing drinks.
