FREMONT – Thanks to a few charitable donations from the Game and Parks Commission, a program that lets hunters donate deer to feed the needy will be able to accept more meat contributions.
Spokeswoman Theresa Lombard, with the Hunters Helping the Hungry Program, talked to Nebraska Radio Network about the generous contribution that made this possible:
Lombard says the program takes deer donated from hunters, processes it and distributes it to food pantries around the state. The processing is what incurs the most cost to the program itself.
Lombard says as the program has grown in popularity, cash donations to the program haven’t been able to keep up with the amount of deer being donated for processing. If you would like to make a cash donation to the program, you may do so on the Outdoor Nebraska website, at http://outdoornebraska.gov/hhh/
