Girl Scouts Prepare to Kick Off 2018 Cookie Season

FREMONT – The winter season is about to become the Cookie Season, as the Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska prepares kick off their 2018 Cookie Program next month.

Girl Scouts will begin selling the famous Girl Scout Cookies on February 2nd. Marketing and Communications Specialist Shannon Peterson with Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska says this year’s cookie line-up will not only feature everyone favorites, but will also see the return of last year’s popular addition.

“We’re really excited about the S’mores coming back. It was a celebration special cookie for last year. And it was so popular that we brought it back again,” said Peterson. “And of course it joins all of your standard favorites. There will be Thin Mints, which I think will never be unseated as the most popular cookie. There will be Caramel deLites, we have the Lemonades, and then two peanut butter cookies. Those are the Peanut Butter Sandwiches and the Peanut Butter Patties. So all of the favorites that everyone enjoys are back again.”

Also in partnership with Baxter Toyota La Vista, Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska will once again be giving away a new car as part of a contest. Peterson says their goal with this contest is to engage the public with the Cookie Program.

“We did it for the first time last year during the Cookie Program and it was pretty successful. So with Baxter’s help we decided to do it again this year,” explained Peterson. “The goal is to engage people more in the Cookie Program, because to enter the contest they have to get a special code from a girl scout. They’re not required to buy cookies but they have to find a girl scout at a booth or through the council to get the code.”

Peterson adds the success of the Cookie Program helps to support the troops and invest in their communities.

“All the proceeds from the Cookie Program stay in Nebraska. The troops keep the proceeds from the sale,” said Peterson. “They use it to fund their activities. Some troops use it to pay their registration for the next year, some use it to buy uniforms, some use it to travel. A lot of troops use it to do community service projects in their area.”

The full 2018 Girl Scout Cookie line-up includes S’Mores, Thin Mints, Caramel deLites, Peanut Butter Patties, Shortbread, Peanut Butter Sandwich, Thanks-a-Lot, Lemonades, and gluten-free Trios.

Cookies will be sold from February 2nd to March 4th. The contest for the new car will run from February 2nd to March 9th.
