FREMONT – The Fremont Family YMCA’s construction on their Olympic-sized swimming pool is continuing to run as scheduled.
According to Fremont Family YMCA President and CEO Jerry Rinne the construction crew has already installed the scaffolding for the pool.
“Construction right now, they’ve actually got scaffolding put in the swimming pool. And they’re cleaning the ceilings and walls, so they’ve been doing a lot of painting on the interior part,” said Rinne. “They just poured the concrete for the hot tub and the splash pads that we’ll have.”
Rinne says in the next two weeks crews will start pouring the pool deck and putting in the rest of the parking lot that will go in front of the Aquatic Center. The concrete for the parking lot in front of Sidner Ice Arena was recently finished.
Rinne anticipates crews will be wrapping up a lot of the work next month. The substantial completion date is still the end of January. He says once the new pool is opened and operating as planned, they will begin renovating the two other pools.
“Once the swimming pool is opened up then we’ll start with our renovation project with the other two swimming pools,” said Rinne. “The lap pool will be turned into an additional 5,000 square-feet of wellness. We’ll have free weights and some CrossFit in there. We’ll fill the pool in with sand and then put concrete over the top. Then the old instructional pool will be filled in with sand and concrete, and we’ll put turf and some pads all the way around it.”
A grand opening ceremony and ribbon cutting will be scheduled for the public once the new Olympic-sized pool is ready to open.
