Fremont Resident Victim of Fraud, Out of Over $3,000

FREMONT – The Fremont Police Department has received numerous calls concerning fraud.

According to Lt. Ed Watts with the Fremont Police Department, at approximately 5:20 p.m. on Friday a fraud was reported to the station. The victim reported receiving a phone call claiming her granddaughter had been arrested and was in need of bail money. The victim purchased four gift cards totaling over $3,500 then called a phone number and provided the card numbers to the person she believed to be a law enforcement official.

The victim later realized she had been scammed, and there are no known suspects.

Also on Friday at 1:15 p.m. 39-year-old Jorge A. Tlatenchi-Vazquez of Omaha was arrested and charged with Driving during Revocation and Expired In-Transits. The arrest followed a traffic stop in the 3000 block of E. 23rd Street after he was observed driving a vehicle with no license plates.

And at 11:45 p.m. on Friday 24-year-old Coby L. H. Velder of Fremont was cited for Driving during Suspension following a traffic stop in the 1800 block of N. Platte Avenue. Velder was stopped after he was observed driving a vehicle and driving too fast for the weather conditions. During the stop it was learned that his license was suspended.
