Fremont Resident Doug Backens Files for County Supervisor of District 7

FREMONT – A Fremont resident has filed for candidacy for the position of Dodge County Supervisor of District 7.

Doug Backens is a Fremont native who has been on the Fremont Fire Department for 24 years. Backens originally applied for the position after previous supervisor of District 7, Gary Osborne stepped down. Current supervisor of the district James Vaughn was eventually appointed to the board, but Backens says he chose to continue pursuing the position because he wants to be involved and work with the county and the Fremont community.

“I just feel that I’ve got some leadership skills and extensive knowledge due to being around Fremont and Dodge County all my life,” said Backens. “I just like to try and get involved and continue the growth of the county, yet control spending at the same time. You have to watch out for our taxes but be able to operate and take care of the county. You have to maintain roads and bridges, and look out for the county employees and the citizens of the county.”

Backens has been married for over 30 years, and he and his wife have three children and one grandchild. He is a graduate of Fremont High School, and he attended classes at Metro Community College and Southeast Community College to receive his Associates degree. Along with the Fremont Fire Department, Backens has also been part of the Fremont Rural Fire Department.
