Fremont Police Investigating Fraud, Criminal Mischief

FREMONT – Police took a fraud report and investigated two criminal mischief complaints yesterday.

Just before 9AM on Monday, a fraud was reported from a residence in the 400 block of north Christy Street.  The victim reported someone from the Dallas, TX area obtained her social security number and used it to fraudulently open a Verizon wireless account, the balance of which has not been paid.  Because the account is in the victim’s name, she is now being contacted to pay that outstanding balance.  The estimated dollar amount of the balance is approximately $1,500.00.  The victim was instructed to contact Verizon Wireless to inform them of the fraudulent use of her name.

Of the two criminal mischief reports, the first came in around 10AM on Monday, when a resident in the 600 block of north I Street reported someone egged her car which was parked outside of the residence. A damage estimate was not available from the police department.

Just hours later, around noon, a car dealership in the 2500 block of east 23rd Street reported that someone broke into a 2006 Chevy K2500 pickup on the lot, in an apparent attempt to steal the truck. While the theft was unsuccessful, the perpetrator did damage a door handle and the steering column in the theft attempt.  Damage to the pickup is estimated at $800.00.
