Fremont Habitat for Humanity Kicks off Construction Campaign

FREMONT – Fremont Habitat for Humanity has started their 2018 home building campaign, building the 82nd, 83rd and 84th homes in Fremont.

This morning, the building festivities kicked off with a Chamber Coffee at a home they’re building with the assistance of Thrivent Builds at 520 E 5th Street – the first home of the season and Habitat’s 82nd build. Thrivent Builds will pay for half of the construction costs of this home. “We partner with them through the whole construction period,” said Joy McCabe, executive director for Fremont Habitat for Humanity. “We’ll be doing some special things with Thrivent out at this build for anybody who wants to volunteer.”

Habitat homes are just over 1,000 square feet, with each build’s layout adjusted to suit the lot. Habitat keeps in mind the existing feel of the lot, and of the neighborhood the new home is being built into. “For instance, this home will have a garage on it to fit into this neighborhood.”

Volunteers are always welcome at Fremont Habitat for Humanity. Construction days are Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Volunteers should meet at 8 a.m. on Thursdays and Fridays, and 7:30 a.m. on Saturdays, at the Habitat building – 701 E. Dodge Street.  No experience is necessary, but skilled construction workers are always valued.
