FREMONT – Sometimes family fun serves a second purpose: to save lives. Such is the case at the 4th annual Fire Prevention Fun Day. On Saturday, June 30th, families and children are invited to the Fremont State Lakes SRA to visit with 12 local fire departments and participate in fun activities centered around fire safety.
Rural fire departments from all over the area will be on hand to talk to kids and families, give fire truck rides and equipment demonstrations along with an assortment of other fun, interactive displays for kids and adults alike. Participating departments include: Fremont Rural, Morse Bluff, Linwood, Blair, North Bend, Clarkson, Scribner, Snyder, Winslow, Schuyler, Tekamah, Plattsmouth.
“It is so important to us because if you can prevent [fire], then it saves lives, property and so much more,” said Pam Pabian with the Morse Bluff Volunteer Fire Department. “This is one of our ways to help educate all ages, not just children.”
Free food and drinks will be available while supplies last. There will be games, giveaways and prizes. Kids will enjoy visits from Smokey the Bear and Pluggy the Robot. Visitors of all ages will be able to take a ride on a fire truck and take part in several fire and safety simulators, including the Hazard House, State Patrol Simulator and the State Fire Marshall’s Fire Trailer. “Each fire department may bring extra equipment also,” said Pabian. “This is our 4th year and it gets better with each year.”
Fire Prevention Fun Day activities will be held in and near the activity center at the west end of the Fremont State Lakes. A park pass is required for park entry, and will be available for purchase: $6.00 for a day pass, cash or check only.
